The founder and how Blackjack Wedding Discos established a name as a leading supplier in the wedding industry

Blackjack Wedding Discos was founded by Blackjack’s Managing Director, Steven Williamson, in 1999.  

Steven first DJ’d for his own primary school discos, more than 25 years ago.  This proved to be sign for the future and as a teenager this led to regular nightclub slots at venues around East Anglia.

In addition to DJ’ing, as a young adult Steven acquired a sound knowledge for business, working for a variety of local and national companies.  During this time he also began DJ’ing for a number of weddings.

In 1999 Steven put his business acumen to the test and established the Blackjack Event company.  Primarily a sound and lighting equipment hire company, quickly growing year on year.

Still DJ’ing, mainly for the wedding industry, and having organised his own wedding, Steven recognised an opportunity to merge Blackjack and his passion for DJ’ing with the creation of Blackjack Wedding Discos in late 2001. 

Utilising his sound and lighting experience, investment was made in disco systems that incorporated the latest lighting and sound equipment, ensuring they soon established a reputation as a leading wedding disco supplier. 

Re-investment has continued to be made in the equipment over the years but also in the DJ’s and technicians recruited.   Steven recognises that the music and equipment are paramount, however, unprecedented emphasis is put on training, ensuring they offer the whole package.

Steven Williamson was born in 1974, lives in Suffolk, is married and has four children.  He continues to be the Managing Director of Blackjack Event company, he still DJ’s when he can, and Blackjack Wedding Discos remains his passion and consumes most of his day (and night time) hours.
